The Introduction to Navigation Taster Session is designed to give a solid understanding of navigation principles and techniques. This interactive and engaging course will equip individuals with essential skills to help navigate effectively in hills.

Information

COURSE OUTCOMES

Introduction to map reading: Learn about different types of maps, and understand key symbols, scales, and contour lines.
Basic compass skills: Develop proficiency in using a compass for direction finding, and taking accurate distance readings.
Practical exercises: Apply acquired knowledge through hands-on navigational exercises.
Planning: Learn how to plan a day in the hills with considerations to kit, nutrition, weather and route planning.
Safety considerations: Understand essential safety measures and precautions to allow safe travel through the hills.

WHO CAN ATTEND

No prior navigation experience is required.

Anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a supervising adult.

WHAT TO BRING

Sensible outdoor clothing including walking boots and waterproofs.
Food & Drink.
Maps and Compasses will be provided (you can bring your own if you have them).

A full kit list will be sent at the time of booking.

DURATION

10am - 4pm

LOCATION

Peak District based but this can be flexible depending on your time of booking. Please enquire for Wales/Lake District or further afield.

Fabulous Days Climbing

The whole day was great, Ben’s knowledge and relaxed style made sure that both the girls got the absolute most from the day. They really enjoyed variety of routes and guidance. I would recommend this

Kids half a day ropes and bouldering

Ben took my kids (6 and 8) out on the ropes and bouldering for half a day. He was so great with them - fun, understanding and encouraging - they’re hooked and desperate to come back and do more!

Amazing day bouldering!

A great day out learning bouldering in the fantastic Peak District

My partner and I had a great day out learning bouldering in the fantastic Peak District. Ben's instruction was top notch and he was very poatient with us. He has so much experience and his teaching skills were superb. We never felt rushed and he was very encouraging and explained everything really well. Multi discipline climbing course

I really couldn’t have asked for more from an intro to outdoor climbing and my first time climbing outdoors. Ben is a fantastic instructor - he immediately puts you at ease - and is knowledgeable, encouraging and kind. I learned loads, had so much fun and felt truly encouraged and inspired to go out climbing by myself. Ben’s joy and enthusiasm for all things outdoors and his generosity with his time, equipment and knowledge made for a very inspiring weekend of which I really hope to have more! Highly recommend and thanks again Ben!

Fantastic day out

Had a really great time on the into to outdoor bouldering day. Ben was a great instructor and a pleasure to be around making the whole day super enjoyable .Would definitely recommend this to anyone interested.

We had a fantastic day with Ben

We had a fantastic day with Ben. He helped us navigate the transition from indoor to outdoor bouldering, and learned to trust our shoes not to slip. He selected appropriate problems for our level and we felt like we were making progress throughout the day. He created a relaxed atmosphere from the start where we felt able to ask questions and fail without judgement. He was a genuinely lovely guy, and we wish him all the very best with the seemingly endless list of things he plans to do in the future!

Excellent intro, great people, brilliant climbing

Cannot recommend highly enough. We've all climbed a little indoors before but were nervous about heading out "into the wild" by ourselves, so found this and it was perfect.
Ben offered us a choice of locations and times, and when we were there he explained everything we needed to know before getting straight into some bouldering.
The positivity from Ben and Naz throughout the day helped us get up some routes we definitely wouldn't have done otherwise, and having someone there who knew the climbs (and down climbs) so well was just amazing.
If you're thinking about booking this, just do it!

Great day out on the rock

My 'kids' asked me if we could go rock climbing outdoors. We had been climbing before at Manchester Climbing Centre a good while back when they were young. I tried reaching out to a few contacts friends recommended but finding a date that worked was taking some time, with a fair few emails back and forth. A quick google search later and I found the "Introduction To Outdoor Rock Climbing" booking page with Pyschi. It couldn't have been easier booking, with available dates quickly accessible through the store booking page. A few moments later and we were all booked in and ready to go. On the day, we met with our instructor who was very knowledgeable and friendly. We were able to get a range of climbs in that suited the different abilities within the group. The coaching was tailored to each climber which kept spirits high on the more challenging sections. All in all a great day out on the rock. I would recommend :)
