OVERVIEW

The Night Navigation Course is designed to equip participants with key skills for navigating effectively in low visibility and night-time conditions. This nighttime course focuses on enhancing map reading abilities and develops your proficiency in using navigation tools and techniques specifically tailored for harsh conditions

COURSE OUTCOMES

Introduction to night navigation principles and challenges.
Techniques for interpreting terrain features and contour lines in low-visibility conditions.
Utilising compass skills for accurate night navigation.
Strategies for planning and executing night routes.
Practical exercises and simulations for hands-on experience in night navigation.
Emergency procedures and safety considerations for nighttime conditions.

WHO CAN ATTEND

Participants should have a basic understanding of map reading and compass use, as well as some prior experience in outdoor navigation.

Anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a supervising adult.

WHAT TO BRING

Sensible outdoor clothing including walking boots and waterproofs. Food & Drink. Maps and Compasses will be provided (you can bring your own if you have them). A full kit list will be sent at the time of booking.

DURATION

This course takes 4 hours. However, the start time will vary depending on the time of year. (Based on sunset)

LOCATION

Peak District based but this can be flexible depending on your time of booking. Please enquire about Wales/Lake District or further afield.

We had a fantastic day with Ben

We had a fantastic day with Ben. He helped us navigate the transition from indoor to outdoor bouldering, and learned to trust our shoes not to slip. He selected appropriate problems for our level and we felt like we were making progress throughout the day. He created a relaxed atmosphere from the start where we felt able to ask questions and fail without judgement. He was a genuinely lovely guy, and we wish him all the very best with the seemingly endless list of things he plans to do in the future!
