Staffordshire

Staffordshire remains far and away the most popular of the areas covered in Western Grit with the celebrated trio of the Roaches, Hen Cloud and Ramshaw Rocks always being busy. The smaller crags of Windgather and Castle Naze are also popular, sat in glorious surroundings with many fine lower grade climbs. 

The Moors

The moors of Kinder Scout and Bleaklow feature rugged grit that is often an hour or so from the road. Meeting another team on these wild and lofty cliffs is unusual and they are perfect summer venues for when you need to get away from it all. The Chew Valley has an array of fine cliffs high above the reservoirs with superb settings, good rock and no crowds. Sadly the choice venue of Wimberry faces north and is often green, however the sunnier outcrops such as Alderman or Standing Stones offer more reliable conditions with the same appealing moorland vista. 

Lancashire

Lancashire has some good climbing but visitors from afar remain rare. The quarries have a rogue reputation but they are home to some first-rate routes, it is just a matter of choosing your time and venue to match the weather. We have added a few extra cliffs to broaden the appeal of the area – give them a try, you might be pleasantly surprised. 

Cheshire

The Cheshire sandstone outcrops have a rich history with Helsby being climbed on since the start of the 1900s. Frodsham and Pex Hill both give excellent bouldering on attractive sandstone, perfect for an evening or weekend workout.
