This in-depth 1-day course is designed for those who already have a base level of map and compass skills but are looking to take their knowledge to the next level as we explore the rolling hills and mountains of the UK.

OVERVIEW

The Intermediate Navigation Course is designed to take your map reading and navigation skills to the next level. Through a combination of discussion and practical exercises, you will gain a deeper understanding of map interpretation, route planning and compass usage techniques.

COURSE OUTCOMES

Advanced map interpretation techniques
Effective route planning and selection
Proper use of a compass for accurate navigation
Understanding topographic features and contour lines
Identifying and navigating various types of terrain
Practical exercises for navigation on different scale maps
Techniques for navigating in low visibility conditions
Building confidence in navigating off-trail and in remote areas
Safety considerations and emergency procedures during navigation

WHO CAN ATTEND

Prior experience with map reading fundamentals, including the ability to read OS maps, identify basic map symbols, and understand contour features.

Anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a supervising adult.

WHAT TO BRING

Sensible outdoor clothing including walking boots and waterproofs. Food & Drink. Maps and Compasses will be provided (you can bring your own if you have them). A full kit list will be sent at the time of booking.

DURATION

10am - 4pm

LOCATION

Peak District based but this can be flexible depending on your time of booking. Please enquire about Wales/Lake District or further afield.

A great day out learning bouldering in the fantastic Peak District

My partner and I had a great day out learning bouldering in the fantastic Peak District. Ben's instruction was top notch and he was very poatient with us. Multi discipline climbing course

I really couldn’t have asked for more from an intro to outdoor climbing and my first time climbing outdoors. Ben is a fantastic instructor - he immediately puts you at ease - and is knowledgeable, encouraging and kind. I learned loads, had so much fun and felt truly encouraged and inspired to go out climbing by myself. Ben’s joy and enthusiasm for all things outdoors and his generosity with his time, equipment and knowledge made for a very inspiring weekend of which I really hope to have more! Fantastic day out
